Rain Bird FD401TURF 4-Address Two-Wire Decoder
Brand: Rain Bird | SKU: FD401TURF
Product Overview
Connect a group of four independently controlled valves to a compatible Rain Bird two-wire system with FD401TURF. It provides four decoder addresses, each serving one compatible valve solenoid. Choose it when the valve layout calls for separate control of four nearby watering zones rather than paired valves that always operate together.
Key Features
- Four independently assignable valve addresses.
- One compatible Rain Bird solenoid per address.
- Sealed housing for a valve box or direct burial.
- Built-in line surge protection when properly grounded.
Common Uses
- Controlling four nearby valves on an ESP-LXD two-wire path.
- Expanding a compatible SiteControl decoder installation.

Compatibility & Installation Notes
Match the FD-TURF decoder family to the installed control system. The gray FD-TURF series is the North American version; do not mix it with black international FD decoders on the same system.
Use compatible Rain Bird commercial valves and solenoids. Rain Bird excludes residential HV, DV, DVF, ASVF, JTV and JTVF valves and control-zone kits using those valves from FD-Series decoder applications.
Record the factory decoder addresses and assign them to the intended controller stations. Connect the two-wire path and individual valve leads according to the controller instructions using suitable waterproof direct-burial splices.
Ground the built-in surge protection as required by the two-wire design. A sealed decoder and built-in protector do not replace waterproof splicing, grounding or the systemβs cable-length and current-limit checks.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does FD401TURF control four valves independently?
Yes. It provides four addresses, with one compatible solenoid per address, so each valve can be assigned separately.
Is it the same as a two-address decoder for paired valves?
No. A paired-valve address operates its attached valves together. FD401TURF provides four separate addresses, one solenoid per address.
Can it be buried?
Yes. Rain Bird permits direct burial and recommends installation in a valve box for access.
Does built-in surge protection eliminate grounding?
No. The decoder must be properly grounded as part of the complete two-wire system.
Why Buy from Big Frog Supply?
Choose FD401TURF when four nearby valves need separate addresses on an ESP-LXD or SiteControl decoder path. Its four-address, one-solenoid-per-address layout provides individual control instead of grouping valves under a shared address. The sealed body and grounded built-in surge protection suit an underground field installation; check compatible valve coils and the grounding plan together before ordering.
