Rain Bird 33DNP / 44-NP Non-Potable Quick-Coupling Valves
Brand: Rain Bird | SKUs: 33DNP, 44-NP
Product Overview
Add a designated non-potable water-access point with a Rain Bird 33DNP or 44-NP quick-coupling valve. Choose 33DNP for a 3/4-inch NPT inlet or 44-NP for a 1-inch NPT inlet. Both have a two-piece red-brass body and purple locking cover; the correctly matched valve key opens the water passage, while a separate 2049 key unlocks the cover.
Key Features
- Purple locking cover identifies a non-potable water point.
- Cover carries Do Not Drink warnings in English and Spanish.
- Two-piece body permits servicing of the valve assembly.
- Red-brass body and corrosion-resistant stainless steel spring.
Common Uses
- Manual water access on non-potable landscape irrigation systems.
- Service points where a purple locking cover is specified.
Technical Specifications

- 44-NP: 1-inch female NPT inlet, two-piece body and purple locking cover.
- Operating pressure: 5–125 psi.
- Valve keys: 33DK for 33DNP; 44K for standard 44-NP.
- Cover key: model 2049; different from the water-access valve key.
- Manufacturer pressure-loss examples: 33DNP at 15 GPM = 4.3 psi and at 20 GPM = 7.6 psi; 44-NP at 15 GPM = 2.2 psi and at 20 GPM = 4.4 psi.
Dimensions
- 33DNP overall height: 4-3/8 inches.
- 44-NP overall height: 6 inches.
Compatibility & Installation Notes
Match the inlet thread, valve-box clearance and compatible valve key before ordering. Select flow using the model-specific pressure-loss chart and the pressure available to the hose or other connected equipment. A family flow range does not establish equal capacity for both sizes.
The standard 44-NP uses a 44K key; do not substitute an ACME-model key based only on the 1-inch inlet size. Select valve keys, the 2049 cover key and hose accessories separately.
Use appropriate piping support and service access. The purple cover identifies the water source; it does not treat water or provide backflow prevention. Keep non-potable connections separate from drinking-water uses.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do the two options differ?
33DNP has a 3/4-inch NPT inlet and a 4-3/8-inch height. 44-NP has a 1-inch NPT inlet and a 6-inch height. Both have two-piece bodies and purple locking covers.
Does the 2049 key turn on the water?
No. The 2049 key unlocks the cover. Use a matching water-access valve key: 33DK for 33DNP or 44K for standard 44-NP.
Does a purple cover make water safe to drink?
No. It identifies a non-potable water point. Both covers carry Do Not Drink warnings in English and Spanish.
Why Buy from Big Frog Supply?
Choose between these valves by matching the supply inlet, box depth and valve key—not by cover color alone. Both provide a purple locking access point, but the 3/4-inch 33DNP and 1-inch 44-NP have different heights and pressure-loss characteristics, so those checks help select a service point that fits the installation.
