Rachio 3 8-Zone Wi-Fi Sprinkler Controller
Brand: Rachio SKU: 8ZULWC-LPRO
Product Overview
Give an existing wired sprinkler system app-based control with the Rachio 3 8-zone indoor controller. Manage up to eight irrigation zones, identify them by name and photo, and start a test run from your phone while checking sprinkler coverage in the yard.
Key Features
- Eight zone connections suit smaller residential systems with separately wired valves.
- Dual-band 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz Wi-Fi gives you two network-band options at the installation location.
- Fixed schedules let you choose watering days and times; flexible scheduling helps adapt watering to changing landscape needs.
- Weather-based rain skips and seasonal runtime adjustments reduce the need to keep changing a conventional timer.
- App controls let you start, pause or cancel watering and organize zones with descriptive names and photos.
Common Uses
- Replacing an indoor irrigation timer serving up to eight wired lawn or planting-bed zones.
- Testing sprinkler heads from the yard with a phone instead of returning to the controller between zones.
- Managing watering days and start times where local restrictions require a defined schedule.

Compatibility & Installation Notes
Count the valve circuits in the existing system before ordering. Photograph and label the old wiring before disconnecting power and replacing the timer. Check Wi-Fi reception at the intended mounting location, use the supplied AC adapter, and follow Rachio’s installation instructions when reconnecting zone wires. Outdoor installations require a compatible enclosure purchased separately.
Confirm any master-valve, pump-start relay or sensor wiring against Rachio’s compatibility guidance before installation; additional components may be needed for a pump-start system. Extended Pro warranty coverage depends on qualifying purchase and professional installation under Rachio’s warranty terms; it is not an unconditional four-year warranty.
Frequently Asked Questions
How many irrigation zones can it control?
The 8-zone controller operates up to eight separately wired irrigation zones. Count your existing valve circuits and allow for planned expansion before choosing an 8-zone model.
Can I mount it outside?
The controller needs a compatible weatherproof enclosure for outdoor mounting. The controller body alone is intended for a protected indoor location.
Do I need Wi-Fi and a smartphone?
Yes. Use a smartphone and the Rachio app to set up the controller, with a reliable Wi-Fi signal at the mounting location. Rachio 3 supports 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz Wi-Fi.
Is a subscription required for basic watering control?
Basic Rachio app scheduling and remote watering control do not require a monthly subscription. Optional premium features and services are separate.
Why Buy from Big Frog Supply?
Choose the 8ZULWC-LPRO when you need phone-based control for no more than eight wired irrigation zones and have a protected mounting location. Its 9.1 × 5.5-inch body helps you assess wall space, while dual-band Wi-Fi lets you check either supported network band before replacing the old timer. Fixed schedules are useful when watering must stay on designated days; budget for a separate weatherproof enclosure if the controller will be outside.
