Key Features

• Adds three station outputs per module.
• Fits ESP-M, ESP-Me, ESP-ME3, ESP-SMT and ESP-SMTe controller families.
• Hot-swappable design allows module installation without powering down the controller.
• Locking lever secures the module in its controller slot.

Common Uses

• Adding zones for a new lawn area, planting bed or drip section.
• Expanding a compatible residential modular controller in three-station increments.
• Replacing an existing ESPSM3 after confirming the controller and wiring condition.

Compatibility & Installation Notes

Confirm the exact controller model and an available expansion slot before ordering. Overall station capacity depends on the controller and the combination of installed modules. This is an expansion component; it requires a compatible controller.

For ESP-ME3, slide the securing lever to unlock, seat the module between the slot rails, push it into place and lock the lever. Allow about 30 seconds for the new stations to become available for configuration. Follow the controller manual for valve wiring, programming and a station test.

ESP-ME3 uses fixed station numbering. A 3-station module may leave unused station numbers within a bay; check the actual displayed numbers before connecting zone wires. When mixing sizes, Rain Bird recommends installing 6-station modules before the 3-station module for ideal sequencing. Follow the instructions for your controller family when working on an older model.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which Rain Bird controllers accept ESPSM3?

ESPSM3 fits Rain Bird ESP-M (ESP-Modular), ESP-Me, ESP-ME3, ESP-SMT and ESP-SMTe series controllers. Confirm the controller model and an available expansion slot before ordering.

Can I install ESPSM3 without turning off the controller?

The module is hot-swappable. On ESP-ME3, Rain Bird allows module installation or removal with or without AC power connected; allow about 30 seconds for newly added stations to become available for configuration.

Will a 3-station module keep ESP-ME3 station numbers consecutive?

Not always. ESP-ME3 uses fixed station numbering, so a 3-station module can leave skipped numbers in a bay. When mixing module sizes, install 6-station modules before the 3-station module for ideal sequencing. Check the displayed station numbers before wiring and programming.

Why Buy from Big Frog Supply?

Choose ESPSM3 when you need three additional zones and your existing controller has a compatible open slot. Its fit across the ESP-M, ESP-Me, ESP-ME3, ESP-SMT and ESP-SMTe families makes the controller model the first selection check; its three-station capacity then helps you size the expansion to the landscape work. On ESP-ME3, plan the module mix and station numbering before wiring so a skipped number does not get mistaken for a missing zone.
